Bread - to heal, to sustain, to share, to prosper for freedom and abundance.
What do you think of when you hear "bread"? Baked goods, money, Jesus' body, manna?
There are probably other images that word brings up for some. For me, these images express freedom, abundance and healing - its about producing and preserving life. Which is what my manna (or glyconutrionals) is all about.

(HealthDayNews) -- A compound in the herb cilantro, a key ingredient in salsa, may help prevent food poisoning.
The compound -- dodecenal -- kills harmful salmonella bacteria and could prove to be a safe, natural food additive effective at protecting people against foodborne illness, says a joint U.S.-Mexican study in the May 26 issue of the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry.
The antibacterial activity in salsa has been detected in previous research. But this is the first study to isolate a specific antibacterial compound in salsa. Both the leaves and seeds of cilantro, also called coriander, contain about the same amount of dodecenal.
The researchers found dodecenal was about twice as potent as the common medicinal antibiotic gentamicin at killing salmonella bacteria. Dodecenal is the only naturally occurring antibacterial that's more effective than gentamicin at destroying salmonella, according to the researchers.
"We were surprised that dodecenal was such a potent antibiotic," study leader and chemist Isao Kubo, of the University of California, Berkeley, said in a prepared statement.
"The study suggests that people should eat more salsa with their food, especially fresh salsa," Kubo said.

(HealthDayNews) -- Figs and fig extracts may be able to stop the growth of harmful food microbes such as Escherichia coli and salmonella.
That claim was to be made in a study presentation May 27 at the American Society for Microbiology's general meeting in New Orleans.
Researchers from North Carolina A&T State University sliced and blended figs into a liquid and then added strains of E. coli and salmonella to the liquid. Samples taken after 24 hours showed a reduction in bacterial growth. Liquid control samples not treated with fig juice had increased levels of bacteria.
"These findings can be utilized by the food industry in the future by adding fig extracts, its original and/or modified form, to processed foods. It's active component can also be isolated into pure forms as natural food additives into many food products," researcher Maysoun Salameh said in a prepared statement.
In some countries, figs and fig extracts have been used for many years to treat constipation, bronchitis, wounds, mouth disorders and other ailments.
In a related study also expected to be presented May 27, another group of researchers from the university will present data illustrating the antimicrobial properties of guava extract and its potential use as a food preservative, according to a prepared statement.

Child vaccines linked to disorders
Preservative increases risk of autism and hyperactivity, U.S. study says

Thursday, February 05, 2004
OTTAWA - After assuring parents that additives in vaccines don't cause brain damage, scientists have found what they believe could be a "smoking gun" linking these additives to autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in children.
In a study published online today, two months ahead of its scheduled release in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, U.S. researchers have discovered an apparent link between thimerosal, a controversial mercury-based preservative once commonly used in childhood vaccines, to an increased risk of neurological disorders such as autism and ADHD.
While most vaccines used in Canada have been thimerosal-free since the early 1960s, the preservative was used in the annual flu shot doctors recommended this year for even healthy children.
In tests on human brain cells, researchers found two natural chemicals -- one compound that stimulates cell growth and dopamine, which transmits nerve signals -- are both key to a process in the brain called methylation. Methylation helps DNA work properly and is crucial to the normal development of the brain. The team found thimerosal, ethanol, and the metals lead and mercury, all interfere with methylation.
What's more, researchers found that thimerosal interfered with methylation even at doses 100 times lower than a child would receive after a shot with a vaccine containing the preservative.
"It was by far the most potent," says investigator Richard Deth, a professor of pharmacology at Northeastern University in Boston.
He said the study, which also involved researchers from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Nebraska and Tufts University in Boston, could account for the rising rates of autism since the early 1980s, when more thimerosal-containing shots were added to a child's vaccine schedule.
A recent review of vaccine-related "adverse events" in the U.S. found a "significant correlation" between shots containing thimerosal and autism, the researchers report.
In a press release, the journal said the new study is "the first to offer an explanation for possible causes of two increasingly common childhood neurological disorders."
But one of Canada's leading experts in vaccination says large studies have repeatedly failed to find any association between brain damage and vaccines that do, or don't, contain thimerosal.
"What (the researchers) are doing in the test tube may or may not have any relationship to what happens in the body," added Dr. Ronald Gold, professor emeritus of pediatrics at the University of Toronto and author of Your Child's Best Shot: A Parent's Guide to Vaccination. He says there's no evidence that the low doses of thimerosal researchers tested would even cross a child's blood-brain barrier.
But Deth thinks there may be a link, and he believes thimerosal may play a role for the one out of 200 children who will experience some kind of developmental disorder.
Before the early '90s, most causes of autism were believed to have a strong genetic component, and symptoms surfaced soon after the child was born.
But with a newer and more common form of the disease, known as regressive autism, children appear to be developing normally but then suddenly regress.
"They lose functions they had before, such as early speech," Deth says. "Parental anecdotes and clinical reports have suggested it happened during periods of high vaccine exposure.
"Up to now, people have said the cause, or causes, of autism, are unknown. Our work isn't final in any sense at all, but it seems to point to this biochemistry as a potential, or even primary, cause of autism."
Thimerosal had been used to prevent the growth of bacteria or fungi in multi-dose units of vaccines for diseases such as hepatitis and diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus, or DPT. Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island have not used childhood vaccines containing thimerosal since the early 1960s. All other provinces began to move to thimerosal-free vaccines starting in 1997. As of March 2001, vaccines for routine immunization of children in Canada have been available without thimerosal.
But the annual flu shot -- which Canadian doctors this year began pushing on even healthy children over six months of age -- contains the preservative. And thimerosal is still found in larger, multi-dose vaccines shipped to Third World countries.
Dr. Laszlo Palkonyay, medical-scientific adviser for Quebec-based flu vaccine maker Shire Biologics, said a study published in the journal Pediatrics last September, which was based on a registry of all psychiatric admissions in Denmark between 1971 and 2000, found no trend toward an increase in autism rates during the period thimerosal was used in vaccines in that country. In fact, he said the incidence of autism increased after the preservative was removed from vaccines in 1990.
Deth believes it is more than coincidental that his team's work "falls directly in line" with some current treatments for autism. For example, his group found that thimerosal inhibits the body's ability to break down a form of vitamin B12, which doctors are now using, with some success, to treat autistic children.
Groups such as the B.C.-based Vaccination Risk Awareness Network have heard from parents convinced routine childhood vaccines sickened or killed their children, and class action lawsuits blaming vaccines for deaths and disorders such as autism have been filed in the U.S. and Canada.
Deth stressed that more work needs to be done, and that there are other risk factors for autism, such as genetic factors and other possible environmental exposures. "Some would consider (thimerosal) a smoking gun," Deth said. "I think it is."

Ephedra Makers Prepare Challenge To Ban
Source: United Press International
NEWARK, N.J. (United Press International via COMTEX) -- U.S. makers of the diet supplement ephedra are preparing a court challenge to the Food and Drug Administration ban on the substance.
NVE, which makes and markets an ephedra-based supplement, will ask a federal judge in Newark Tuesday to delay the FDA ban, the New York Times reported Monday.
The FDA ban was set to begin at the start of business this week.
"We've simply asked the court to stay the ban, pending a full assessment of the science on ephedra," said a lawyer for NVE.
"My client's company has lost over 95 percent of its sales. We're glad we're finally in the courts where the science can be looked at. Three billion servings of ephedra have been sold year after year. The numbers are staggering, how safe it is."
In the three months since the FDA announced its ephedra ban, four people have died from taking ephedra, bringing the nationwide total to 164 since 1994, 29 of them last year.

While he meant well in creating an energy bar, please notice that the first ingredient is sugar (high fructose corn syrup) and then more sugars with grape and pear concentrates and maltodextrin. They use milk protein that is made from pasteurized milk and then processed in a way to damage the protein.
Moral of the Story
Exercise alone won't cut it folks. If you eat stuff that is not good for you like PowerBars you run the serious risk of dying prematurely from heart disease. It is quite incredible to find a world-class marathoner dieing from a heart attack at such a young age. That just goes to show you how powerful insulin is.

Antibiotic use is associated with an increased risk for breast cancer, a new study with 10,000 women has found the possibility that widely used medicines are prone to one of the most feared malignancies. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4283052/
One day we are going to realize that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? Supporting your immune system can be far less expensive than antibiotic use that years later may have to be followed by surgery, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Never getting cancer is something I can't put a price tag on.

The number of physicians in the US is 700,000.
Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.
Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(US Dept. of Health & Human Services)
Then think about this:
The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000 (yes, eighty million!).
The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500.
The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188.
Statistically, then, doctors are about 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS A DOCTOR.

I like to think that I have it all figured out. For now anyway. Actually, I think that I do. I come to this conclusion, and then go off on some other tagent momentarily or sustain it for a while, but always return back to the center. The point of life is to love.... to learn to love and to be loved.
I've been learning some mind bending stuff lately. Stuff about people and their lives and their spiritual experiences. I'm sorry to say that I've had a pretty small view of the world, people and God. I've stuffed God in boxes, and he continually finds a way to destroy it, but then I try to contain him in a slightly bigger box - or at least one of a different shape. But the truth is, God doesn't fit in any box. There are no paramaters, no boundaries to his existance, his ability, nor to his love. God is love, it is his essence.
People have fought wars through the ages for three reasons, money, politics and religion... all of them an attempt to exert power over others. To control. Power corrupts... (you know the rest).
God doesn't exert his contol over others. If he did, we'd all be robots. Afterall, he is God isn't he? He invites us, and gives us the choice to come. It is the gift to man to chose that results in so much pain (and conversly, so much joy). We have suffered great pain, huge offenses and horrible atrocities because of other's choices or our own.
If coersion is used to control, manipulate or impose our view on others - then there in interference with the divine right of choice. Even if it is believed that the best interests of the other is at heart.
Can I go back and fix the past? Erase all of the times I've attempted to coerse others to believe as I do? Not hardly. Can I walk perfectly from here on, and never fall into the trap of insecurity, allowing others to have their different experiences and opinions? Far from perfect, I am. I do feel more enlightened, and because of that I know I will grow and hurt less and less people. But I don't beat myself up for imperfections because he fully loves me anyway.

I volunteer. A lot... everyday, all day. Well, sometimes it feels like it. I began volunteering for many reasons, one of which was to return back to the community what the community had done for me when I needed various kinds of support from various kinds of agencies.
Volunteering is contagious, or perhaps the correct word is addicting. Once it gets in your blood, it absorbs into your DNA. In fact the volunteer organization that I started grew so popular that it was not only addicting, it took over my income producing job(s). Guess which I quit? In my other life, I taught deaf kids.
Well I am in quite a conundrum about saying that I volunteer. I dislike the whole "blowing your own horn" routine, and I would much prefer any "heavenly reward" over any kudos or praise from any mortals. Thank you very much. So by saying that I volunteer and had to quit my j.o.b. because it was seriously cutting into my passion of volunteering, am I missing my "heavenly reward"? What about if I asked you to support my health product business or to buy your Amazon books through my links? (You pay the same amount regardless of whether you buy directly through the Amazon web-site or through some small affiliate.)
[a little aside: Besides the fact that it is the best health based NWM company around - they won't produce a product unless it is several times more effective than anything else on the market and have many listings in the PDR because of their commitment to research constraints that are demanded of pharmaceutical companies; health product companies have much lower standards but they demand the best of themselves.]
Coming soon: I will be posting links to my ebay stuff for sale, and other web-based businesses that I am working on. Web based business and network marketing is the only thing that makes for me to do since my volunteer "work" needs me to be flexible and not committed to a j.o.b.
Thanks for listening.

Eat whatever you want and let your doctor tell you everything that you need and tell you what prescriptions your body is deficient on.
Is there hope if you don't recognize my sarcasm?
Sometimes it is right to do something that is "wrong" to protect values and stand up to injustices. Sometimes we have to fight for what we believe and to be unpopular in expressing our beliefs in helping other people to wake up, or to push against giants to make them stop squashing us.
Tonight we saw the movie John Q - with Denzel Washington. Let me oversimplify the plot; Denzel takes a hospital hostage to put his son on the heart transplant list. The hospital wasn't going to do the transplant because he had too little insurance coverage. Before they could send him home to die, daddy took the hospital hostage - and proposed some additional drastic measures which then he had to decide if he was going to follow through with. I guess we would call that civil disobedience
The movie identifies a few injustices of the American medical system.
Like the fact that doctors get bonuses at Christmas from insurance companies for not giving / recommending medical treatments that are costly, and for only doing the basic coverage things - when the insurance is limited. Denzel's kid had a horribly enlarged heart, but it was never identified, but it could have/should have been a lot sooner.
As well as the injustices of the medical system, this also says to me "hey people - don't wait for your doctor to make you all better, take your health into your own hands!" Finally people seem to be doing that more and more.
Drs. have played God for too long - and people have allowed them to play God - sort of like a bent form of church, because some don't want to take responsibility and some want the power of everyone looking to them for answers.
Oh, and then there are your friendly, neighborhood pharmaceutical giants.
Some health plans will only cover "generic" drugs and when it comes to transplants and immune suppressants, there are no generics available.
Patents last 17 years - and the drug companies charge incredible fees justified by "research costs." ... but they spend more money on marketing than they do on R&D.
Surprisingly our toxic environment doesn't do a good enough job of suppressing our immune system, if you have someone else's heart in your chest that your body thinks is an intruder.
Makes me glad to be Canadian... we pay taxes, and we wait in line for medical treatments. Those line-ups are getting increasingly longer, but everyone waits in the same line.
Your body is your responsibility.

Eat This For Breakfast & You'll Get Fat
Eat toast made with white bread or any sugary cereal for breakfast, and you'll probably pack on the pounds--not because of the high calories in these foods, but rather because of their high glycemic index.
The BBC News Online reports that researchers from Oxford Brookes University have determined that these foods make you hungrier come lunchtime. That is, eat Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies for breakfast and you'll pig out at lunch.
What are the best breakfast foods? That would be cold or hot cereals made from whole grains. Oatmeal is ideal. As Mom used to say, oatmeal sticks to your ribs, and that means you'll eat more sensibly at lunchtime because you won't have strong hunger pangs. The message here is exciting. Eat the right foods for breakfast and you could lose weight without dieting--just being smart in what you eat. Of course, the opposite is true as well. If you eat the wrong foods, you could gain weight even though you don't realize it. And the magic element is a low glycemic index or GI, which is a measurement--assigned as a number of 0 to 100--to describe the effect specific foods have on our blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates that breakdown quickly during digestion have the highest GIs with a blood glucose response that is fast and high. Carbohydrates that breakdown slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood stream, have lower GIs.
The study: The British researchers recruited 37 children ages 9 to 12 and divided them into three groups. The first ate a breakfast of porridge or a bran-based cereal with a glycemic value of less than 55. The second group had the same breakfast, but with added sugar to raise the glycemic value above 55. The last group ate white bread and sugary cereals with a glycemic value of 75 to 100. The children ate no snacks during the morning. At lunchtime, they were allowed to eat all they wanted from an open buffet.
The results: The kids who ate a breakfast with a low GI index ate significantly less for lunch than those who ate breakfast foods with a high GI. They were also less likely to feel hungry between meals, notes the BBC.Calling the study "remarkable," lead researcher Jeya Henry told the BBC, "By selecting the type of breakfast we feed our children, we can alter their subsequent food intake. Feeding them a high GI breakfast will mean they will eat more."
If you want to eat foods with a low GI, the University of Sydney in Australia recommends the following:
Breakfast cereals based on oats, barley, and bran.
"Grainy" breads made with whole seeds.
Reduce the amount of potatoes you eat.
All types of fruit and vegetables (except potatoes).
Plenty of salad vegetables with vinaigrette dressing.
The study findings were published in the journal Pediatrics.

Many diet supplements are high glycemic and actually defeat your stuggle for weight control. Many diet plans actually instruct you to restrict low glycemic foods and eat high glycemic foods. For a information on a supplement program that is low glycemic click here.
*note - one of the biggest problems with diet plans is consumer abandonment - jumping from one diet plan or supplement to another - ok I don't remember the proper term, but basically when you find something that works, that you know others have had good results with, you have to maintain it, and stick through any plateauing your body will naturally do in making adjustments.

Glaxo Exec Admits Drugs Ineffective
LONDON (UPI) -- A senior executive with Britain's biggest drug company has admitted most prescription medicines do not work on most people who take them. Allen Roses, worldwide vice president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline, told Monday's London Independent fewer than half of the patients prescribed some of the most expensive drugs actually derived any benefit.
Roses, an academic geneticist from Duke University in North Carolina, spoke at a recent scientific meeting in London where he cited figures on how well different classes of drugs work in real patients. "The vast majority of drugs -- more than 90 percent -- only work in 30 or 50 percent of the people," Roses said. "I wouldn't say that most drugs don't work. I would say that most drugs work in 30 to 50 percent of people. Drugs out there on the market work, but they don't work in everybody."

Your body doesn't lack a pharmeceuticals if you are ill, you are lacking nutrients. There are no side effects to proper nutritional supplements as there are with drugs. ALL drugs are toxic. Because drugs are toxic, you do feel something, and often quite quickly, but that doesn't mean that what you feel is positive. It may suppress the symptom, but the symptom is just the body's way of saying "help!" Suppressing a symptom is like putting duct tape over the oil light on your dash board, instead of changing the oil in your car.
How old are you? It took you as many years as you have been alive to get into the state of health that you are in, will a few days on a supplement reverse many years worth of lack of proper nutrition and toxic living and our stressful lifestyles? I hope I don't have to answer that for you.

Physical Health
So did you know that your cells communicate with each other?
There is actually cellular letters, molecularly speaking, that form a cellular alphabet your cells use to communicate to other cells. These molecules are on the surface of every cell.
If you had these molecular nutrients in your diet, how do you suppose that would affect your health? What body functions and processes do you suppose these nutrients would assist with? Or perhaps the better question is what do you supposed these micro-nutrients wouldn't assist with?
Well, every cell does uses little tiny micro glyco-protein molecules as letters for an alphabet used to communicate to other cells its identity, needs for repair, request for food, etc. Every cell. Good cells and bad cells.
Technology Review: Glycomics
If the bad guys (viruses, mal-functioned cells, unhealthy bacteria, toxins, etc) were properly labelled, the immune system would be better able to "read" them and take them out (sorry for my lack of medical jargon). You immune system (made up of various other cells) use this same cellular alphabet.
Sadly, most of us are lacking the nutrients in our food to provide the body with these needed alphabet molecules. At best, we only get a couple of the molecular letters in our diet. How well could you communicate if you only had a quarter of the alphabet at your disposal?
So suppose you were taking these nutrients, how would your body feel? Better? Or worse?
Well considering most of us are veritable toxic dumps, to actually enable cells to communicate properly and the immune system to be properly armed, you could feel worse - initially. In fact, you could feel terrible as your immuse system wakes up to the dull roar or "help me" screams from its cells and starts dealing with long harbored issues. Any natural supplement regeim should yield similar results.
How old are you? It took that many years for you to get into the state of health that you are now in. Do you think taking a few nutrients for a few minutes (ok a month) is going to fix it all?
The bad feelings should pass, then the nutrient supplements should go on dealing with the everyday issues that food and nutrition in our bodies should deal with. But it is a jungle out there, a stressful and toxic jungle. Your nutritional needs are increased under the stresses of painful relationships, busy careers, exams, commuting, not enough time in life.
So why doesn't your doctor tell you about this stuff? Because this research is done in the area of science and biology, and the medical area hasn't caught up, yet. Medical science is more concerned with drug development - they don't necessarily want to do a lot of research on anything that they can't patent and sell through a pharmaceutical company.
Plus if your doctor graduated more than 8 years ago ... well, she or he simply doesn't have a lot of time to do a lot of reading. And the reading they do would more likely be in the area of pharmaceutical medicine than science.
To read an incredible account of how these glyco nutrients saved one man from "streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome, or TSS, a life-threatening disease that among survivors usually results in the loss of arms, legs or other muscle and flesh" click for full story.
