Bread - to heal, to sustain, to share, to prosper for freedom and abundance.
What do you think of when you hear "bread"? Baked goods, money, Jesus' body, manna?
There are probably other images that word brings up for some. For me, these images express freedom, abundance and healing - its about producing and preserving life. Which is what my manna (or glyconutrionals) is all about.

DR. DEEPAK CHOPRA, the best-selling author and holistic physician, likes to say this about the human body: "It is the place that memories call home."
If coordination, balance and athletic ability are the subject, some of those memories are good and some bad.
Real bad.
"We are all programmable," says Alexander Lees, a clinical counselor in Surrey, B.C., who works with recreational athletes. "We are affected by environment, parents, teachers. We are especially pro- grammed by what people in author- ity say to us (such as a coach or physical education teacher). Those memories can be limiting and last for a lifetime. People can convince us we are not coordinated."
Good news from researchers: It's never too late in life to become more coordinated, improve your balance and, yes, become a better athlete.
Begin with the work of William J. Evans, who runs the Nutrition, Metabolism and Exercise Laboratory at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He has written landmark government-funded studies showing people can improve strength, balance and fitness well into their 80s and 90s.
"That's into the 10th decade of life," said Evans, who consults with NASA on astronaut fitness and optimal readiness for space travel.
His experiments were simple enough. Volunteers trained three times each week on weights - sometimes as little as one-pound dumbbells. Within weeks, strength gains were significant and, more importantly, people were regaining independence.
"It's a quality of life issue," said Vincent Nethery, a professor of exercise science at Central Washington University. "Not relying on someone to help you go to the bathroom or making a trip to the grocery store are vital capabilities we don't realize how much we miss until we don't have them anymore."
Nethery and other exercise scientists embrace the notion of muscle memory. Your body remembers how to swing a golf club or stroke your arms in a swimming pool. Part of regaining coordination - or achieving it for the first time - is about trusting that anyone can build muscle memory.
Practice may not make us perfect, but we can get a lot better.
Nethery said training with free weights or pursuing any activity that requires agility (rock climbing, tennis, volleyball, inline skating) promotes more coordination because a greater number of muscles are recruited to balance and stabilize the load of the free weights or your body. The term for this sensory recruitment of "stabilizer" and "neutralizer" muscles is "proprioception."
So let's review. We have no excuse about being too old or out of shape. We can become more coordinated through the old- fashioned hard work of practice. We can train more efficiently by using free weights, even starting modestly with light dumbbells.
So what's stopping us from passage into the Land of the More Coordinated?
Probably that nagging thought about not being coordinated put in the head by a PE zealot in canvas hightops or perhaps a schoolmate. Or maybe, sadly, an older sibling or parent. Perhaps even a spouse who believes old is old and physical activity is for the young.
Lees helps clients clear any limiting memories with an approach called emotional freedom technique or EFT (www. emofree.com). It combines acupressure and psychotherapy to help "tune up" the mind- body connection.
There are hundreds of meridian points used by acupuncturists to move energy in the body. Lees said a select few relate directly to the emotions. Those are the ones he taps while asking clients to address their problems or concerns, such as the tennis player struggling to get her serve into play. Lees said a five-minute session can "tap out the glitch" in the nervous system and improve performance.
Lees recognizes that people doubt his claims. During one stop of a recent lecture tour in Spain, a local radio commentator for the English-language station attended an EFT workshop on one condition: That he could report the whole approach as bunk if that was what he determined it to be.
No problem, said Lees. He asked the man to hit 10 golf balls to determine the normal state of his swing. Then Lees tapped the commentator's acupressure points while the man made statements about having a wicked slice off the tee in his golf game. After the short session, the man teed up another 10 balls and hit them straighter and longer. He went on air and raved about EFT.
Candace Pert is a research professor at Georgetown University's Department of Physiology and Biophysics. She contends our thoughts convert to emotions that in turn become neuropeptides. Those neuropeptides, which are strings of amino acids, communicate with the body on the biochemical level.
Lees sees his EFT work as rearranging those neuropeptide chains and not allowing the negative emotions to continue signaling the body. It follows that we can do our own rearranging by finding a way to eliminate negative thoughts about coordination and athleticism. Not clinging to critical voices from the past is one possibility. Visualizing success (and not failure) is another option. Simply deciding not to be afraid about making mistakes is valuable.
We can start by heeding the advice of legendary football coach Vince Lombardi. When he first joined the Green Bay Packers, he told his coaches and team: We're not starting with a clean slate, we're starting with a whole new slate.

Listen folks, you have a 9000% greater chance of dying under your doctor's care then from a gun shot in the US! So this isn't about your safety - the law is being passed for the love of money. The pharmecolgy giants have lobby groups that do not work on your behalf in congress, but on their own behalf. They do not work on your behalf with the medical industry either, their soul purpose is to sell drugs. If it doesn't work for you, they don't really care.
I recommend the movie "The Corporation" - great show --- read with an informed mind!
FDA, Pharmacy Boards Oppose Drug Imports
Source: United Press International
WASHINGTON (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The U.S. government and pharmacy groups Wednesday opposed importation of prescription drugs from other countries, following a review of action by 30 states.
Importation of cheaper prescription drugs from other countries, primarily Canada, is an illegal but growing practice among U.S. patients -- many of them the elderly who do not have prescription drug insurance coverage.
Legislation to make importation legal has bipartisan support in Congress and is supported by some policymakers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy told a news briefing Wednesday they strongly oppose importation because it is unregulated and endangers public health.
"It's almost like rolling the dice. You don't know what you're gonna get when you order medication outside of the U.S.," said Tom McGinnis, FDA director of pharmacy affairs.
McGinnis said the FDA's concerns include the potential use of unregulated ingredients, quality control, shipment and authenticity of imported drugs.
Carmen Catizone, NABP executive secretary, said the association, which represents U.S. state boards of pharmacy, has received 100 direct complaints from consumers on problems or injuries from imported drugs.

REHOVOT, Israel (UPI) -- Israeli scientists have destroyed malignant tumors in mice using a chemical that occurs naturally in garlic, the Weizmann Institute reported. The key to the scientists' success lies in a unique, two-step system for delivering the cancer-wrecking chemical to the tumor cells. Researchers at the Weizmann Institute's Biological Chemistry Department describe their technique in the December issue of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.
Allicin, the substance that gives garlic its distinctive aroma and flavor, is also a known toxic substance that can kill cancerous cells. It is composed of an enzyme, alliinase, and an inert chemical called alliin. The scientists attached alliinase to an antibody that was "programmed" to be attracted to a gastric tumor's characteristic receptors. Then they injected that alliinase-antibody combination into a cancerous mouse. Once the alliinase-antibody had settled on the tumors, the scientists alliin into the mouse. The combination of alliinase and alliin -- at the site of the tumor -- created the toxic allicin, which cured the mouse of its gastric tumors.

Over 55 percent of the North American populations are seeking complementary health through herbs and dietary supplements. It just may have something to do with these facts...
They state that from 1994, (the year that the DSHEA was passed in the U.S.) and 1999 that seniors with disabilities fell 2.6% annually. Prior to 1994, from 1989 to 1994 the decline was only 1.6% annually.
The researchers also question whether the disability drop will last. They feel that we are not going to see dramatic declines in the future. It will be interesting to see the data after 1999, particularly among Mannatech Associates.
The Health and Medical Research Foundation confirmed these facts. Dr. Gil Kaats has shown with his Published Clinical Studies used in the Nutraceutical-intervention /Longitudinal Trials that with the intervention with the Optimal Health Plan that we may extend our entry into the Disability Zone from age 65 to the age of 85. Dr. Reg McDaniel, M.D. also displayed these studies at the 1998 Longevity conference in Las Vegas.
Anti-Aging Plan
1. Get Moving. Retirement is not the time to put your feet up but to get moving. Movement keeps us suppler, improves our metabolism and keeps us younger.
2. Don't Smoke! We all know the dangers of smoking and of second hand smoke.
3. Follow a healthy diet. Know your Profile and eat accordingly.
4. Use Supplements wisely. Mannatech Associates, have experienced the value of dietary supplements. Many studies have are documented on Mannatech 's nutrition science site - www.glycoscience.com
5. Drink enough water. Drink at least 1 ounce of water per every pound of body weight, daily; or at least 8 glasses everyday.
6. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun. Skin cancer is on the rise, particularly in the Sun-Belt regions.
7. Reduce Stress. We have seen through various studies (see www.glycoscience.com) that stress impairs the immune system and makes us more susceptible to illness and chronic diseases. Emotional factors or psychological stress are possible precursors to hypertension.
8. Challenge your mind. We know that regular physical activity assists us with our short-term memory and reaction times.
9. Limit alcohol consumption. One drink a day is acceptable and may even provide some cardiovascular benefits.
10. Cultivate satisfying relationships. Positive social interaction lowers the level of stress hormones in the blood.
11. Consider preventive medicine. If you are not already taking dietary supplements you would be wise to take a closer look at Mannatech's Optimal Health Plan and consider practicing preventative medicine.

It may seem like second nature to you to apply sunscreen before going out in the sun, as the media has been bombarding Americans with reports of the dangers of the sun for some time now, but using sunscreen is not a good way to limit your sun exposure.
Having concerns about skin cancer is valid, however, as its incidence in the United States has tripled in recent years to 54,000 cases annually, but sunscreen is one of the LAST things you want to put on your body, and sunblock does not stop skin cancer. Sunscreen is a toxic chemical that can cause problems in your system and increase your risk of disease.
The FDA regulates sunscreen as an over-the-counter drug because it contains "active" ingredients. Following is a list of active ingredients in sunscreen that the FDA classified as RASE (generally regarded as safe and effective):
* Para Amino benzoic acid (PABA)
* Avobenzone
* Cinoxate
* Dioxybenzone
* Homosalate
* Menthyl anthranilate
* Octocrylene
* Octo methoxycinnamate
* Octyl salicylate
* Oxybenzone
* Padimate O
* Phenylbenzimidazole
* Sulisobenzone
* Titanium dioxide
* Trolamine salicylate
* Zinc oxide
Potential Toxicity
Whether some of these ingredients are toxic is controversial and there are studies on either side of the issue. But recently, a study in the April 2004 Journal of Chromatography found that there is significant penetration of all sunscreen agents they studied into the skin, and oxybenzone and metabolites across the skin.
So at best when you use sunscreen your body is absorbing synthetic chemicals, and with experts' recommendations to apply generous amounts of the product every few hours, you will likely be absorbing a fair amount. It is hard to believe that all of these chemicals will not have any effect on your system. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which act as physical barriers that reflect UV rays, may be less problematic in terms of absorption.
Even though up until now studies on the potential toxicity of sunscreens are sparse and not definitive, I believe it is wise to reduce your exposure to synthetic chemicals as much as possible and I don't recommend using sunscreens at all.
Sunscreen and Vitamin D
There is another major problem with sunscreen aside from the potential chemical toxicity and that is it blocks your skin's ability to make vitamin D by more than 95 percent. If you've been reading then you are familiar with the importance of having optimal vitamin D levels and know that
regular sun exposure is the best way to achieve this.
Rather than burying your skin in sunscreen, it is clearly important to get regular sun exposure in order to have optimum health.
Sun Safety Without Sunscreen
This does not mean that we should all go out and get as much sun as we want--you must exercise caution and avoiding a burn is key.
At the beginning of the season, go out gradually and limit your exposure to perhaps as little as 10 minutes a day. Progressively increase your time in the sun so that in a few weeks you will be able
to have normal sun exposure with little risk of skin cancer. You can further avoid the damage from the sun by staying out of the sun during the harmful times from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can stay in the shade during this time or wear lightweight long sleeve shirts, long pants and a wide-brim hat.
If you are looking to give yourself further protection against skin cancer, along with not getting sunburned diet is undoubtedly important.
In 2001, the National Academy of Sciences published a comprehensive review showing that the omega 6:3 ratio was the key to preventing skin cancer development. I believe that it is the worsening omega-3:6 ratios that are at least partly responsible for the rise in skin cancer rates.
Omega-3 and omega-6 fats are both essential for human health, however the typical American consumes far too many omega-6 fats in their diet while consuming very low levels of omega-3. While the ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats is 1:1, our ratio of omega-6 to omega-3
averages from 20:1 to 50:1!
The primary sources of omega-6 are corn, soy, safflower and sunflower oil; these oils are overabundant in the typical diet, which explains our excess omega-6 levels. Avoid or limit these oils.
Meanwhile, omega-3 fats, found in fish oil and cod liver oil, need to be increased.
A major part of the problem is that at the beginning of 1900 we had very little processed vegetable oils, which are virtually 100 percent omega-6 fat, in our diet. In the last 100 years the U.S. population has gone from consuming virtually no vegetable fats to consuming more than 70 pounds per year. It is likely this unnaturally high consumption of omega-6 fats that is totally distorting the important omega 6:3 ratio.
So as I mentioned above, it is vital to reduce the omega-6 vegetable oils in your diet as much as possible while increasing the amount of beneficial omega-3 fats. This is an incredibly important way to prevent skin cancer and it is spelled out quite clearly in a 2000
Cancer Research study that says:
"Epidemiological, experimental, and mechanistic data implicate omega-6 fat as stimulators and long-chain omega-3 fats as inhibitors of development and progression of a range of human cancers, including melanoma."
Additionally, consuming many whole vegetables will increase antioxidant levels in the body, which will provide protection against any sun-induced radiation damage.
So if you want to benefit from the sun this summer, and I sincerely hope you do, throw away your sunscreen and use practical methods like clothing and shade to protect your skin from the sun when necessary.

LONDON (UPI) -- Researchers warn that smoking cannabis even for only a short time, damages the lungs of young people. The researchers from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham tested smokers, non-smokers and cannabis users for lung function and their blood was also examined in a pilot study.
They found that regular cannabis smokers had poorer lung function than those who just smoked cigarettes and more severe problems than those who did not smoke at all, the London Daily Mail said. Even after less than six years of smoking the drug, the ill effects were already being seen on their breathing, the finding showed. "The consensus among many young people who use cannabis seems to be that they will not suffer any long-term effects as long as they stop smoking it early enough," Dr. Sarah Nuttall, a research fellow from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said. "However, this is clearly not the case."

(HealthDayNews) -- A compound in the herb cilantro, a key ingredient in salsa, may help prevent food poisoning.
The compound -- dodecenal -- kills harmful salmonella bacteria and could prove to be a safe, natural food additive effective at protecting people against foodborne illness, says a joint U.S.-Mexican study in the May 26 issue of the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry.
The antibacterial activity in salsa has been detected in previous research. But this is the first study to isolate a specific antibacterial compound in salsa. Both the leaves and seeds of cilantro, also called coriander, contain about the same amount of dodecenal.
The researchers found dodecenal was about twice as potent as the common medicinal antibiotic gentamicin at killing salmonella bacteria. Dodecenal is the only naturally occurring antibacterial that's more effective than gentamicin at destroying salmonella, according to the researchers.
"We were surprised that dodecenal was such a potent antibiotic," study leader and chemist Isao Kubo, of the University of California, Berkeley, said in a prepared statement.
"The study suggests that people should eat more salsa with their food, especially fresh salsa," Kubo said.

(HealthDayNews) -- Figs and fig extracts may be able to stop the growth of harmful food microbes such as Escherichia coli and salmonella.
That claim was to be made in a study presentation May 27 at the American Society for Microbiology's general meeting in New Orleans.
Researchers from North Carolina A&T State University sliced and blended figs into a liquid and then added strains of E. coli and salmonella to the liquid. Samples taken after 24 hours showed a reduction in bacterial growth. Liquid control samples not treated with fig juice had increased levels of bacteria.
"These findings can be utilized by the food industry in the future by adding fig extracts, its original and/or modified form, to processed foods. It's active component can also be isolated into pure forms as natural food additives into many food products," researcher Maysoun Salameh said in a prepared statement.
In some countries, figs and fig extracts have been used for many years to treat constipation, bronchitis, wounds, mouth disorders and other ailments.
In a related study also expected to be presented May 27, another group of researchers from the university will present data illustrating the antimicrobial properties of guava extract and its potential use as a food preservative, according to a prepared statement.

Child vaccines linked to disorders
Preservative increases risk of autism and hyperactivity, U.S. study says
Sharon Kirkey
CanWest News Service
Thursday, February 05, 2004
OTTAWA - After assuring parents that additives in vaccines don't cause brain damage, scientists have found what they believe could be a "smoking gun" linking these additives to autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in children.
In a study published online today, two months ahead of its scheduled release in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, U.S. researchers have discovered an apparent link between thimerosal, a controversial mercury-based preservative once commonly used in childhood vaccines, to an increased risk of neurological disorders such as autism and ADHD.
While most vaccines used in Canada have been thimerosal-free since the early 1960s, the preservative was used in the annual flu shot doctors recommended this year for even healthy children.
In tests on human brain cells, researchers found two natural chemicals -- one compound that stimulates cell growth and dopamine, which transmits nerve signals -- are both key to a process in the brain called methylation. Methylation helps DNA work properly and is crucial to the normal development of the brain. The team found thimerosal, ethanol, and the metals lead and mercury, all interfere with methylation.
What's more, researchers found that thimerosal interfered with methylation even at doses 100 times lower than a child would receive after a shot with a vaccine containing the preservative.
"It was by far the most potent," says investigator Richard Deth, a professor of pharmacology at Northeastern University in Boston.
He said the study, which also involved researchers from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Nebraska and Tufts University in Boston, could account for the rising rates of autism since the early 1980s, when more thimerosal-containing shots were added to a child's vaccine schedule.
A recent review of vaccine-related "adverse events" in the U.S. found a "significant correlation" between shots containing thimerosal and autism, the researchers report.
In a press release, the journal said the new study is "the first to offer an explanation for possible causes of two increasingly common childhood neurological disorders."
But one of Canada's leading experts in vaccination says large studies have repeatedly failed to find any association between brain damage and vaccines that do, or don't, contain thimerosal.
"What (the researchers) are doing in the test tube may or may not have any relationship to what happens in the body," added Dr. Ronald Gold, professor emeritus of pediatrics at the University of Toronto and author of Your Child's Best Shot: A Parent's Guide to Vaccination. He says there's no evidence that the low doses of thimerosal researchers tested would even cross a child's blood-brain barrier.
But Deth thinks there may be a link, and he believes thimerosal may play a role for the one out of 200 children who will experience some kind of developmental disorder.
Before the early '90s, most causes of autism were believed to have a strong genetic component, and symptoms surfaced soon after the child was born.
But with a newer and more common form of the disease, known as regressive autism, children appear to be developing normally but then suddenly regress.
"They lose functions they had before, such as early speech," Deth says. "Parental anecdotes and clinical reports have suggested it happened during periods of high vaccine exposure.
"Up to now, people have said the cause, or causes, of autism, are unknown. Our work isn't final in any sense at all, but it seems to point to this biochemistry as a potential, or even primary, cause of autism."
Thimerosal had been used to prevent the growth of bacteria or fungi in multi-dose units of vaccines for diseases such as hepatitis and diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus, or DPT. Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island have not used childhood vaccines containing thimerosal since the early 1960s. All other provinces began to move to thimerosal-free vaccines starting in 1997. As of March 2001, vaccines for routine immunization of children in Canada have been available without thimerosal.
But the annual flu shot -- which Canadian doctors this year began pushing on even healthy children over six months of age -- contains the preservative. And thimerosal is still found in larger, multi-dose vaccines shipped to Third World countries.
Dr. Laszlo Palkonyay, medical-scientific adviser for Quebec-based flu vaccine maker Shire Biologics, said a study published in the journal Pediatrics last September, which was based on a registry of all psychiatric admissions in Denmark between 1971 and 2000, found no trend toward an increase in autism rates during the period thimerosal was used in vaccines in that country. In fact, he said the incidence of autism increased after the preservative was removed from vaccines in 1990.
Deth believes it is more than coincidental that his team's work "falls directly in line" with some current treatments for autism. For example, his group found that thimerosal inhibits the body's ability to break down a form of vitamin B12, which doctors are now using, with some success, to treat autistic children.
Groups such as the B.C.-based Vaccination Risk Awareness Network have heard from parents convinced routine childhood vaccines sickened or killed their children, and class action lawsuits blaming vaccines for deaths and disorders such as autism have been filed in the U.S. and Canada.
Deth stressed that more work needs to be done, and that there are other risk factors for autism, such as genetic factors and other possible environmental exposures. "Some would consider (thimerosal) a smoking gun," Deth said. "I think it is."

Ephedra Makers Prepare Challenge To Ban
Source: United Press International
NEWARK, N.J. (United Press International via COMTEX) -- U.S. makers of the diet supplement ephedra are preparing a court challenge to the Food and Drug Administration ban on the substance.
NVE, which makes and markets an ephedra-based supplement, will ask a federal judge in Newark Tuesday to delay the FDA ban, the New York Times reported Monday.
The FDA ban was set to begin at the start of business this week.
"We've simply asked the court to stay the ban, pending a full assessment of the science on ephedra," said a lawyer for NVE.
"My client's company has lost over 95 percent of its sales. We're glad we're finally in the courts where the science can be looked at. Three billion servings of ephedra have been sold year after year. The numbers are staggering, how safe it is."
In the three months since the FDA announced its ephedra ban, four people have died from taking ephedra, bringing the nationwide total to 164 since 1994, 29 of them last year.

Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.
Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Then think about this:
The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000 (yes, eighty million!).
The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500.
The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188.
Statistically, then, doctors are about 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
